Afraid to answer the door? Not Expecting Anyone? Here’s an Easy Way to Stay Safe

This can be You!
You’re at home alone late at night. Maybe you’re in bed asleep with the lights out, or in the shower, or in your pajamas watching TV.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Your heart races.
Who would be knocking on the door at this time of night?
But you don’t have to panic. You stay calm because you’re already prepared for this situation.
You pick up your smartphone. Amazingly, it has already detected the person at your front door, it has beeped to notify you, and it is already displaying live video of the person, a young man in a black hoodie.
It’s dark on your front porch, but you still see him clearly, thanks to High Definition night vision.
He can’t see you or hear you. But you can see and hear him. There is also a young girl standing to the side, but you can still see her because of the wide angle view.
You’ve planned for this and you’re ready. From your bedroom, using your smartphone, you decide to speak to him so he won’t think there’s no one home. You’ve heard that some burglars ring doorbells to test whether someone is home so they can break in.
You press a button on your phone so now he can hear you when you speak.
“May I help you?”
He answers, “Is Ezekiel home?”
“No, there is no one here by that name. You must have the wrong house.”
“Oh, okay. I must have gotten lost. Can I borrow your phone?”
“No, I’m sorry. We are busy right now and can’t come to the door. But there is a convenience store down the street where I’m sure they can help you with directions.”
Your preparation pays off.
You watch them on your phone as they walk to their car and drive away.
And you haven’t left your bedroom the entire time!
You don’t have to be scared to answer the door when you’re not expecting anyone. Fortunately, you made the wise decision earlier to install a Ring Video Doorbell.
Before you purchased it, you were skeptical, and had several concerns…
STRANGER AT THE DOOR:
What if there is a stranger at my door, and I’m scared at home alone?
Even if the approaching stranger does not press the doorbell button, a Ring Video Doorbell has a motion detector and will activate your smartphone, ring an alert sound to get your attention, and show you a live video feed on your phone of the person at the door whether they press the doorbell button or not. You can see them and hear them. They can’t see you. And you don’t have to talk to them them unless you decide to push a button on your phone so they can hear you.
NO PRIVACY AT HOME:
What if a stranger at my front door can see me through the window?
The Ring Video Doorbell allows you to speak to the person through your smartphone from anywhere in your house. You don’t have to get near your front door to speak to them, where they might see you through the windows. You can speak to them from your bedroom, bathroom, anywhere in your house, and even from hundreds of miles away if you aren’t at home.
LEAVING HOUSE UNATTENDED:
What if a stranger comes to my house when I’m not at home?
If you’re afraid to leave your house unattended, don’t worry. If there is a stranger at the front door, and you’re away from home, the Ring Video Doorbell will alert you on your smartphone and show you a live video of the person the same as if you were at home. If you choose, you can push a button to speak to the person, if you want to make them think you are at home. You can simply tell them that “we” can’t come to the door at the moment. And if the situation worsens, you can tell them you are calling the police (this has scared off many would-be burglars, who leave to go find a house that will be easier to break into).
HACKING:
Can someone hack into a Ring Video Doorbell and get my wifi password?
This was a concern in the past with video doorbells, but is no longer a problem with new technology. Now, each Ring Video Doorbell uses bank-grade encryption and includes firmware which prevents a hacker from accessing a home wifi system through the doorbell. The firmware in the video doorbell runs an online check each day to make sure it’s updated automatically with any upgrades.
PHONE OFF:
What if my smartphone is turned off or not working?
You can set up your Ring Video Doorbell so that, even if your smartphone is off, it will also ring your regular doorbell chime on the wall so you can hear it. To do this, you can simply install the video doorbell on the same wiring you may have used previously for your regular doorbell. Or if you use battery power for your video doorbell, you can also purchase a special wireless wall chime that will ring when someone presses the doorbell, even when your smarphone is off.
REMOTE CONTROL LOCKS:
I need to let a family member into my house, but I’m out running errands; what if they get there before I do?
When they arrive at your front door, you will automatically be notified by your smartphone, even if you are somewhere else. You will be able to see them and speak with them remotely. You can also unlock the door remotely and let them in until you get there (if you have added a Smart Lock which allows you to open the lock remotely from your smartphone).
SEE OUTSIDE AT ANY TIME:
Will I only be able to see video when someone is at the door?
The Ring Video Doorbell has a feature called Live View, so you can turn the camera on and see outside, even when no one is at the door.
POWER SOURCE:
Do I have to hassle with constantly charging a battery?
With the Ring Video Doorbell you have the option of running it either on battery power or on the regular doorbell wiring in your house. If you already have a wired doorbell, the video doorbell can simply be attached to those same wires. And if you want to use the video doorbell in a location where you don’t have wiring, you can simply use the included battery power. The battery is able to power the doorbell for anywhere from 6 months to a year before needing a charge. And it comes with a USB cable so you can charge it with any standard USB charger.
SUPPORT:
Where will I get help after I buy my Ring Video Doorbell?
There is an extensive Community Support Center online at the Ring website where there are lots of articles explaining how to handle every aspect of the Ring Video Doorbell, including installation, regular use, trouble-shooting and other advice.
SAVING VIDEOS:
What if I’m not available to see the video when someone rings the doorbell?
No problem. You can sign up to save all videos on the Internet through the cloud for $3/month. Even if you aren’t available when someone is at the door, you can review the video as soon as you’re ready so you can see what you missed. You will have your saved videos available in case you need to show them to someone else later.
MULTIPLE USERS:
How can others in my home answer the door when I’m not there?
Unlike some other brands, the Ring Video Doorbell allows you to set up more than one “user”, so other members of your household can view and respond to the video doorbell, even when you aren’t available.
INTERFERENCE FROM NEARBY DOORBELLS:
If my neighbor also has a video doorbell, will we see each other’s video?
The Ring Video Doorbell avoids that possibility by using random numbers to generate a call ID from Ring products that are connected.
VISIBILITY:
Will I be able to see people clearly through my video doorbell?
A Ring Video Doorbell uses High Resolution technology with a wide angle lens and night vision. So you will clearly see someone at your door, even if they are standing to the side or if it’s dark outside. Of course, it won’t be perfect, like an HD television screen. But you will have plenty of quality so the videos you save can easily be used to identify someone later if necessary.
OLD DOORBELL:
I don’t want to give up my old doorbell.
If you use your existing doorbell wiring to power the Ring Video Doorbell, your old doorbell chime will still ring whenever someone presses the button outside on the Ring Video Doorbell. Your cellphone will also alert you at the same time and show video of the person ringing the doorbell.
PLACEMENT OF DOORBELL:
Can the video doorbell only be used at the front door, or can I put it somewhere else?
Your Ring Video Doorbell can be installed just about anywhere, as long as it is close enought to your wifi to connect wirelessly. If there is no electrical wiring with power where you want to put it, you can just use the included battery power. So you can install the video doorbell on your back door, side door, garage, rent house miles away, or anywhere else you have wifi available.
MULTIPLE HOUSES:
What if I have multiple locations I want to monitor?
Not a problem. You can set up multiple Ring Video Doorbells at different locatons that can all be tracked from one app on your smartphone.
SIGNAL DELAY:
Is there a delay between someone pressing the doorbell button and me being alerted by my smartphone?
There is always a short delay because the doorbell signal is passing through your home wifi system, to the cellular carrier, and then to your smartphone. But remember, if you choose to also keep your old doorbell chime still connected (or you add a wireless wall chime available from the Ring company), you will still hear the wall chime instantly when someone has pressed the button. Most users report that, even though there is a delay in the signal to the smartphone, it is much better than when they did not have the video doorbell feature at all and only had a regular doorbell chime.
STOLEN DOORBELL?:
What if someone steals the video doorbell?
Not to worry. With your Ring Video Doorbell you get Lifetime Protection. If the video doorbell is ever stolen from your front door, the Ring company will replace it free of charge.
EXPOSURE TO WEATHER:
Won’t my video doorbell be damaged by being outdoors all the time?
The Ring Video Doorbell is certified for outdoor usage, and it is designed to work in operating temperatures from -5F to +120F
Certified for outdoor usage.
Operating temperature range is -5 degrees to +120.
BREAKING DOWN:
What if my video doorbell breaks?
With a Ring Video Doorbell you get a 1 yr warranty on parts.
INSTALLATION HASSLES:
Isn’t it going to be a pain to install a video doorbell, and take a long time?
Actually, it is very simple to install a Ring Video Doorbell. It can be completed in a few minutes. There is a Quick Install Guide included with the video doorbell. It even comes with the tools you will need in the box, including screwdriver handle, screwdriver bits, drill bit, bubble level, screws, screw anchors, and USB charging cable. And the smartphone app you will use to communicate with the doorbell from your smartphone is free and you can download it online from the App Store.
USING THE SMARTPHONE APP:
What if I don’t like the way the smartphone app works?
The app can easily be tailored to fit your own needs.
SIZE OF DOORBELL?
Will the doorbell be too big compared to my old doorbell?
The Ring Video Doorbell is larger than a standard doorbell. It measures 4.98 in. x 2.43 in. x 0.87 in. Most people say the larger size is an acceptable trade-off for the extra safety and security they get.
All your concerns were answered. You decided to test it out and buy a video doorbell. And you’re glad you did.
You smile to yourself.
You remember when you used to be scared to answer the door when you you were home alone and weren’t expecting anyone.
What a relief!
